Women Poets of the Seventeenth Century
This exhibit focuses on the poems produced in the seventeenth century, by women. Included are original or early texts of the poems being analyzed, as well as an author image. It may be worthwhile to consider areas of similarity and difference between these works, while considering such factors as geographical and cultural contexts.
Women Poets of the Eighteenth Century
This exhibit focuses on the poems produced in the eighteenth century, by women. Included are original or early texts of the poems being analyzed, as well as an author image. The cultural and biographical contexts are a bit more diverse than those of the poems written during the previous century. This may be a useful framework for considering the significance of these poems, and how they connect to the works featured in other exhibits.
Women Poets of the Nineteenth Century
This exhibit focuses on the poems produced in the nineteenth century, by women. Included are original or early texts of the poems being analyzed, as well as an author image. In considering how these texts compare to or contrast with each other (or texts in other exhibits), it may be worthwhile to incorporate biographical and cultural contexts. Because of this, a brief background is included with each poem, as well as links to author biographies.
European Poets
This gallery is designed to contribute to classification of poems by location, as opposed to timeframe. Currently, a large percentage of the poems featured on this site were produced by European authors. While this percentage may change as more works and poets are added to the site, it currently bears further investigation in considering the prominence of European poets during the 17th-19th centuries.
North American, Asian, and African Poets
This gallery is designed to contribute to classification of poems by location, as opposed to timeframe. Currently, a large percentage of the poems featured on this site were produced by European authors, but three other continents are also represented. While this percentage may change as more works and poets are added to the site, it currently bears further investigation in considering the relationship between European and non-European poets of the 17th-19th centuries.
